Ouch. Poor Sam and Poor Dean. Poor Sam because there was nothing he could say that wasn't going to upset Dean and poor Dean because he just doesn't realize how freaking important he is to his family.

I love these codas. They really add so much to the show. Poor Sam, he knows that the truth is that he would pick Dean over his dad, and he knows that Dean hates that. But, being honest is all he can do.

Yes! See, I agree 100 percent that this was why Sam didn't say anything as the screen faded to black-- because how does he tell Dean that as sorry as he is that John is gone, it's a good trade in his (Sam's) mind?
