I would like to profess my love for you and your books. His Dark Materials has made my life a better place, and I thank you for it. Your trilogy dominates my favourite books list, and you are my favourite author by far. I quite enjoyed your Sally Lockheart books as well. If you, like Santa, had the power to grant gifts I would ask you for a daemon. A Siberian Tiger, if you please. The idea of the daemon is my favourite idea in the world, as silly as that sounds. How can you rank ideas? I've found a way, apparently. Thank you for writing the most magnificent books of all time, and I cannot wait for the Book of Dust to grace my overflowing bookshelves.
P.S. If you ever come to Toronto, please look me up. I would buy you coffee and a cookie.
Most definitely a very nice, and very nicely thought out, letter. :)
I've been dying to reread the trilogy with all this talk going around about it, now that I've expanded my philosophical and religious education (well, academic religion, it's quite a different story from belief, unfortunately) I'm really curious to see how it comes off to me now.
It's been a while since I read the gospels (and I really wish I brought my Bible up with me) but it seems to me, as an outsider, as if people forget the center of Christianity sometimes. I don't comment very often on your blog, but I have quite a bit of respect for you. I mean, you're awesome and have quite some faith... there needs to be more people like you. ;D
It's very true that people miss the center of Christianity. The most fundamental theology you should ever have in terms of Christianity is this Sunday School song that has been around since there was Sunday School
( ... )
I never run into many Christians or religious people, but you are definitely the coolest, most relaxed one I've ever met, Josh. It's nice to read a positive letter to an author about how good his/her books are. Not many religious (and even non-religious) people do that because it "endangers their political and religious views" or something like that.
It's just a book, right? A great book series at that, I mean. I never read it, but you definitely seem to have really enjoyed it! Hopefully, Mr. Pullman will receive and read your letter, and then write some more books for fans like you. :)
