As Ikuko stared at the girl on the television, she felt horribly worried.
The super suited hero of Tokyo was no older than her own daughter, and yet she held so much responsibility...things even a grown up could hardly hope to cope with. Sailor Moon saw nightmares people only usually saw in their sleep and face annihilation on a daily basis it seemed these days. Ikuko just didn't understand why anyone would want such a life. Being a hero was something to astrive for, but it came with its costs, and Ikuko was sure the young girl was feeling them right now. Why did she continue? Did she really think anyone expected this of her? Surely no one would make a teenager put themselves in such dangerous situations. The girl must be brave and reckless, which made Ikuko worried. The girl could end up getting hurt, or worse, if she continued like this.
Ikuko was glad Usagi wasn't brave. Not to say her daughter wasn't strong in her own way, or the sweetest thing in the world who would do anything (besides wake up on time) to make you happy. But Usagi was scared of spiders and jumpy during scary movies. Usagi would never do such a crazy thing, and that comforted Ikuko. Her daughter was safe; she would never be fighting monsters or climbing over rooftops. Their lives weren't extravagant or all that entirely exciting, but Ikuko was happy with her family, and couldn't think of them any other way.
"Hi Mom, hi Dad!...Shingo," Usagi's sing song voice came from the doorway. The family idly glanced up from their tasks and uttered their hellos, although Shingo's response had colorful adjectives mixed in.
"Did you have fun at Rei's, sweety?" Ikuko asked.
"Oh yeah, as much fun as studying can be!" Usagi answered, rolling her pretty eyes.
"Sailor Moon is on the news again," Shingo muttered, and Ikuko watched Usagi's face freeze strangely, as if she'd been caught with her hands in the cookie jar.
"Oh, well I'm sure she saved the day again!" Usagi giggled, placing her hand behind her back. "I'm going to go take a shower now!" In a second she was gone, and the family went back to their business in her wake. Ikuko tried to push Usagi's almost guilty face from her mind as she pushed the needle through the thread.
Yes, she liked her normal family, and couldn't think of them as anything else. Even if they were.
