ramblings on freshman year

Jul 07, 2003 19:14

These days when people ask me what I think of Yale I'm careful to parse the question - Yale the corporation is an exploitative, hypocritical megacompany which fails to live up to or pursue the ideals of its rhetoric and discourages the students it strives to educate from recognizing connections between their community and their nation, between ( Read more... )

You are a fascinating person. The problem, as I see it, with liberal thinking (I am a liberal, so I am looking at this outside of my box) is forcing other people to agree and change… or not forcing, but convincing people to believe what you believe. The quickest way protests or declarations can change anything is having someone in power see the demonstrations and believe in that cause. That’s the conundrum, because people in power are usually the people you’re fighting against ( ... )

No, didn't realize that was you when you posted a comment...weird. Guess you found me. Sorry I never responded to what you wrote then - I meant to, and would have had an easier time remembering if I'd known who you were ( ... )

I'm actually very surprised to see that you responded after a month! I thought you might respond in the first week, if nothing else then to tell off a strange person who's writing in your journal! I'm guessing Sheira told you who I was, although I'm not sure how my livejournal name came up in conversation.

I found your journal through Danna's friends page. I used to (and still) check my friend's friends just to read interesting entries. I'm looking to be either a psychologist or a psychiatrist. I'm fascinated with how people think and reason. Usually I don't respond, but when I realized who you were (I actually assumed who you were based on your style and how similar what you wrote compared to the conversation on July 4th), and when I read your entry, I started writing- and I thought if it seemed ridiculous, you'd just ignore it.

Anyway, I really appreciate your comments. I hope to talk to you soon... and I'm glad to hear she didn't get you lost on your way out from the city!

i second that.

josh, i'd like to challenge you to try to write a livejournal post composed entirely of monosyllabic words. i think it would broaden your horizons. and vocabulary. ;)

but i must admit, when people ask me about yale, i also "parse" in about the same way. i just dont use that word...

I totally wish I had been there. By the way, Ruth, you're definitely picking your mouth in this picture, no matter what you say.
