Just finished what I guess I'll count as the third major draft of the longest paper I've ever written... I am so ready, needless to say, for this to be over. My girlfriend is leaving tomorrow morning and while I'll see her in a few weeks for graduation, this is, however arbitrary (isn't it always?) the end of the relationship. It's hard to be grieving the loss of what we have now, and also grieving the loss of something we had before and somehow lost.

I feel like I'm caught between wanting to push time forward and wanting to hold it back...I really do feel weighed down by work right now in a way that makes me feel that much more drained for the things I really value. And I know it tends to work out in the end, but it would be nice to really know that, or to be consistent in my sense of what it ( Read more... )

How can two people not know how to live without each other or how to have a conversation together?

I love to watch her sleep. Good thing because while I tend to sort of sink slowly into sleep she's here and then she's gone in the space between syllables. I finished Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals just as my train pulled in New Haven station - I'm rearing to go. Back on campus now - what a beautiful, broken place. I was really lucky to have the kind of summer I did, and with the amazing people I did. And now I'm lucky to be back here now doing this...trying my best.

It's strange how slow my vision of my self is sometimes in catching up with myself - and sometimes I think my sense of what I do or should want has even more inertia. I think it's easy for me to fall into the trap of feeling compelled based on what I think makes me happy, and writing off uncertainty about it by misidentifying it as overanalysis - ( Read more... )
