My Comments for more on the State of Model Building
Don't know how many here still put together plastic models but it is one hobby that I still love as much as gaming. The problem is that I really haven't done much in the past few years. Most of it due to being to busy with other things and most of my modeling supplies got trashed (unbeknownest to me) about 3 years ago and I hadn't replaced them till just recently.
Well I decided to start building kits again and since all the models I had built from the time I was a kid till I was in college got tossed by my evil stepmother (no joke), I decided to start where I did back then. I picked up a number of classic WWII ships and a vintage Pappy Boyington F-4U Corsair in 1/32nd.
But tonight I scored big time.
Gloat number one.
I had always wanted to build a USS Reliant from Star Trek, so after some sweating I was able to snag *ahemsnipe* one for only $18.50. They have been running as much as $40 bucks. BTW, it is the big one that is the same scale as the Enterprise 1701A that has an 18" saucer section.
When Torren and I went to Kansas City the other day we looked at some 1/350th scale ships, namely the USS New Jersey and the USS Missouri Battleships. These bad boys go for $120 to $140 bucks at all the hobby stores. These bad boys for those not up on all the scales, are almost three feet long and a foot wide when built!
Of course we drooled ourselves silly but had to pass. I came home with a couple nice 1/560th or there about models of the Missouri and Arizona along with a PT 109 in 1/72nd.
Now for a mega gloat.
But tonight as I sat here looking around eBay I spied a couple listings. Both were the drooled over 1/350th USS Missouri and the USS New Jersey. The New Jersey slipped thru my evil grasp. But the Missouri, the $120 off the rack model, I snagged *coughsnipe* for a whopping $19.50.
Of course there is shipping, but even with shipping it was under $30.00.
Sometimes I really really love eBay!!!
