Not a first for soaps, sadly. About a year ago on Coronation Street they had a man secretly do a paternity test to check if a girl was his or his brother's, and when it came back as a match they acted like THERE COULD BE NO POSSIBLE WAY HER PATERNITY WAS EVER IN QUESTION AGAIN. Never mind the one where a man did one on a baby (that he wouldn't otherwise be related to) by getting a DNA sample from a dummy he picked up with his old hanky. No corrupting the sample there! It always makes me wonder if they're going to do another big Paternity Reveal for the kids a few years later, but they never do. It's usually just soap shorthand, I think. But for a blood group, they might well turn it around just to slap Mick in the face.
I get the impression that EastEnders feasts off the pain of its characters more than Coronation Street, generally. So it's probably intentional. *sigh*
