I've despised the RIAA for a long, long time. I used to buy a LOT of CD's every month, but when they started putting copy protection on them (which only worked to screw up the CD) I stopped. In the past year I've only purchased as many CD's as I used to buy in one afternoon. I figure I have enough CD's to last me a while now.
Fortunately for Brianna and her family, Steve over at Hypothermia auctioned of a Rig to raise the 2 grand for her fine. But they can't help everybody, and I don't want the RIAA getting the money anyway.
Oh, we have yet to see the end of this, lemme tell ya.
Orin Hatch, the Senator from my state, and a music writer himself, is trying to make it so that the RIAA would be able to "Zap" any computer downloading off of things like MinMX, etc. I don't know the details fo the technology behind it or if they have said technology at this point. His argument is that if they took out a few thousnad computers over the file sharing networks, that would pretty much be the end of it.
The one thing that also really bothers me about all of this is the whole "Turn youselves in" thing... How easliy could it become "And give me a list of your friends as well."
The Commmunist thing... my thoughts exactly. Didn't want to put to strong a spin on it though by actually saying it, considering the weight of the two issues.
Nonetheless it IS a witch hunt... and likely due to the lost revenue they're trying to make up from the fact that the good majority of what th music industry is pushign is carp, these days... IMHO, anyway ^_^.
