I passed out early last night. The whole exercise-and-not-eating-much thing wears thin after a while, but it's getting the job done. I've lost 5 more pounds in 5 days. Booyah. My energy level has definitely dropped down a lot though, thus the passing out early part ( Read more... )

As a sociology major, I'm constantly aware of consumer culture. Unfortunately...it's not something that can be avoided entirely. The only way for someone to fully reject it is to live in the woods in a tree, returning to that homonid we were so long ago...gathering everything. (Of course, that was in a sense, consumerism too...but not nearly on the same grounds). Regardless, we consume throughout our entire existence. When we are sleeping, we are consuming...the heat or air conditioner we have on to make it comfy in our room is runing. We may have an alarm system that we pay montly for on our homes to make sure we are always safe (personally I prefer the dog ( ... )

Okay, so I recognize that their individuality has been hijacked by consumer culture. Because of this recognition I am repulsed. But this is not a common reaction. I'm fairly certain that everyone (the women who wear the clothes and drive the cars, and the men they're attracting) is aware that they are a product of their society. The difference is that where I value individuality, they just want to fit into the system. Rather than being creative or unique, they are motivated to become the most attractive mates inside their social system ( ... )
