Way to go on the exercise! The world needs more buff scientists, and we scientists need to get out of the lab more often, so that's a win-win situation there. Me, I'm a huge fan of running. Of course, the endorphin kick that de-emotionalizes everything is a huge motivator to keep it up. If you're goal oriented, running lets you see improvement in pace and distance and aim for a competition. What have you been trying?
If meditation isn't working for you, you might want to try a yoga class. The breathing exercises combined with mastering physical movements help keep meditation from turning into a mental self-flagellation experiment. The classes I've been to contain predominantly women, which might be distracting, but that could be good for you too. ;-P

I don't mind you posting at all. It's always good to see new faces. And thanks for the encouragement. I've been running on Tech's cross-country track, trying to get stronger. It's a double plus for me since I can bring my dog along and let him run with me off-leash. You're not the first person to suggest a yoga class. Maybe I'll give it some thought, if I can find one.
(from friar, sorry no livejournal ID) great job on the weight loss man, grats! I agree with donahue that shooting is an excellent way to just go out and think about nothing but breaking paper at the perfect spot every single time your hammer falls. I find it amazingly relaxing and challenging. Of course i prefer pistols, but rifle shooting is great as well, if you don't have one get an iron sighted .22 caliber or .177 pellet rifle for cheap pracitce (you will save the cost of the gun in 5 trips to the range if you shoot 60 rounds per trip). when you're ready i seem to remember that several of the wife's floormates at work are single and the floor above is where my cousin works and they are almost all single. hehehe hot nurses...sweet! take care!
