Murphy's Law

It's been almost a year of living in Indiana for me.
Today, with only a week left of time here, my instrument finally decides to work well.
I am tearing my hair out trying to get all the little pieces of work done in 7 days. Why didn't it work like this THREE MONTHS AGO????

Hey, at least it's working! I didn't get my data until about two weeks before I had to defend. It'd be cool if it had worked out earlier, but congratulations on getting it done now!

My instrument didn't work until after I turned in my dissertation. My chapter on those measurements was going to be all "future work" stuff telling the theory behind what I was trying to do. I miraculously got it working and took my final measurements four days before my defense (over a week after turning in the dissertation). I wrote the analysis code that week and finished my final plots a couple hours before the defense. I then rewrote that entire chapter, with measurements, during my post-defense "corrections". I had to get it all approved by my committee chair. I am definitely not the model to follow. I think the stress shaved a few years off of my expected life span.
