Denial ain't just a river in Egypt

Yes, I'm in denial. I can't believe that classes start again in three weeks. Ugh. I haven't even ordered my books yet (which I guess is okay because I use very common tech writing books). I'm not excited at all about teaching again. Everything that happened last year has left me with a bad taste in my mouth about the department, and Steve and ( Read more... )

Hi, sweetie! I'm in a wee bit of denial about classes starting in two weeks as well. It's just so much easier to get things done when I'm not being distracted by that pesky thing called the "j-o-b." But, at least I will also be making a bit of that helpful thing called "m-o-n-e-y." The green stuff is nice. For some reason, right now I'm feeling more avoidant towards the students with bad attitudes ( ... )

yeah, those damned student evaluations. i always get nervous with those. i was super nervous this year because i was teaching a class for the first time (and they were juniors and seniors and therefore more critical), but i was pleasantly surprised. i actually got the most useful feedback that i've ever gotten, and i think that's due to their age. i've never cried over one, and honestly, i forget what the bad ones say in a day or two anyway. i figure we'll teach so many students over the course of our lives that a few "bad eggs" shouldn't get to us ( ... )

I'm feeling you...

I'm heading to the UNCG campus tomorrow for the first time since I left G-boro in mid-May to run pre-class errands, and I'm actually nervous about it - which is so nerdy. I haven't done anything towards planning next semester, and I only just today sat down and took a hard look at my schedule.

The plans you and Steve are considering sound exciting, and even though I know it might be tough thinking about moving on - it's incredibly cool to think about the possibilities of going forward. You are both awesome teachers (and I rarely use that word except when genuinely applicable); you are both super-dynamic, and you deserve to feel more appreciated. Just talking about how cool you all are makes me wish I could hang out with you more! :)

I hope you are able to relax and enjoy the time you have between now and the start of the semester.

ugh--boo! stupid school. i can relate to being nervous. it's amazing that we've been doing this for years, and it's still a big deal. ah, well--at least we're not alone!

thanks for the comments about steve and i--it made me smile, and i needed that. steve actually bought a GRE book to start studying the other day, so now i wonder if he's serious. while i'm excited about the changes that are before us, i'm incredibly scared, too.

we have GOT to make plans to hang out! we're only two and some hours apart--we should just pick a weekend and then figure out the logistics. any certain weekend work well for you?

We really really do need to make plans. Grant and I are planning to come up for at least one football game in September, though we haven't decided which one yet. Maybe we could come by to see you all then? I'll definitely be in touch. Do you have the same cell number ( ... )
