What I think about it

I like the OTO. Really I do, and I think it's great fun as a social circle, entirely fascinating as a cultural experiment, and most impressively educational in any number of ways. I'm charmed, I'm smitten, I've been dating it for almost four years now and I still enjoy and respect it ( Read more... )

I was going to try to say something witty and supportive but then the witty escaped. ;-)

You should always do what you need to do for you...first. I think it's perfectly fine that you're still dating. I give you my whole-hearted support. I think you show a great deal of insight and intelligence here.

I'm glad that I've taken as long as I have to get where I'm at and who knows, I may sit here for a while myself. We'll see.

Regardless of all that, we should hang out some time. There are some interesting plants in my neighborhood that I'd like to know what they are and I think you're just the person to tell me.

Considering the changes going on for your household, I can see why you might feel the need to verbalize these boundaries, but the thing that strikes me is that participation in OTO or lack thereof isn't something anyone should have to justify or explain. If the skills we learn through initiation aren't for developing our real lives, then they're pretty hollow. And if they are translatable and useful, then the best I would hope for any initiate is that they get focused on their work and do it with great joy. By necessity, this means that at times, significant participation in local Lodge work may go by the wayside - simply because there are only 168 hours in the week, and ideally one will spend them in the most fruitful manner possible towards the goals one has identified as most important.

Oh, camping sounds fun!

My husband is incredibly supportive of me, too, I think we're both darned lucky. And to have the rest of you, I'm quite amazed and blissfull about the whole thing. And think of you when I (still!) have those "I'm really in Portland!" moments.

As far as I can tell it's just sort of cumulative jitteriness from many years of running on empty. It's not a matter of not liking dreamland. I think part of it is from years of mornings being scary and cruel and nightime being when I could relax and have a little time of my own. Also I took way too much sudafed for years because I couldn't breathe without it, which fortunately I no longer do, but I'm probably still winding down from that, too ( ... )
