So I had the misfortune of sacrificing two hours of my life last night watching The Golden Compass. I had bought it at Circuit City, having wanted to see it for awhile, thinking any movie with bear cavalry--Bear Cavalry, people!--had to at least be pretty freakin' awesome.

I'm glad you lived through the movie. I think that was the last movie I saw before the head doctors got a hold of me... :p

So, you bought it at Circuit City? Does this mean you're back on my side of the pond?

Wow, fast reply. No, I'm still in Afghanistan. I bought it at Circuit City back in March, when I was at Fort Bliss and when their shops were having their "Going Out of Business" clearance sales. I just now got around to watching it.

I'm with you on this movie. It had all the elements to be cool...but it just didn't come together.

I have yet to watch the movie. For reasons you've discovered.

I have heard the book and sequels are much better. I've read the books, and from your description of the movie I now believe those reviews.

And the daemon thing is a *lot* better explained in the book series.

So one of these days I've got to get around to reading the Narnia series, the His Dark Materials series, and the Lord of the Rings series.

Too many books!
