The trouble with being open

I saw her comment and refrained from, "Oh, you're just NOW paying attention?!"

I'm glad your birthday went well, I too admire Macaroni Grill. I haven't been there in a while and I couldn't give less of a shit about their food. I'm all about drawing on the table cloth.

Yeah, she's Veronica's "little sister" in their sorority. I met her once at an ice skating thing for jews, so she is pardoned from caring about my life. But I definitely had no idea what to say.

And THAT is why I never say "Oh, what's wrong, sweetie?" If I see an ambiguous miserable sounding fb post. I don't know what to do with the information "My grandmother got rabies, exploded all over my parents, so I'm hiding in my room from my rabid zombie parents :(("

If I don't know the person very well and/or I'm not close to them I always go with:

a) Ignore it. I don't know them well enough and they probably don't know me that well either. They don't want to tell an acquaintance their problems and if they do, don't talk to them ever again.

b) If you choose not to ignore it, you'll either regret it or you'll really regret it.

If I know the person and happen not to be up to date:

a) Fucking message them privately. Nothing like reliving it publicly AGAIN. A message discrete and easier to open up in.

b) That "Fucking" was really unnecessary but oh well, it gets my point across and that's the type of man I am.
