Wedding invitation question and a POLL

Jul 06, 2007 13:12

So I heard something today and I was like HUH?

I heard that it's pretty much only Mormons that put photos in wedding invitations, and that in the "real world" it's considered tacky.  Seriously?  I love getting the engagement picture in the invite.  Then again, I also love Christmas letters in cards.

So here are my questions for all y'all.

Poll Pics in wedding invites

I never knew it was tacky. I knew that it was mostly only Mormons that did it, though. But more than half of my wedding guests were not Mormon, and most everyone loved that we had put a picture in the invite. I really like it when there's an engagement picture!

Ok, I've never gotten a wedding invite that had a picture in it, so I'm not taking the poll.

That being said - I think it's a really cute idea. Our invites had stick people on them, so I'm all for something different. ; ) Go for it!

Your invites sound really cool! Do you have one to scan in and share?

I knew you were going to ask that. I'm going to have to look around. I think there are some in a box at my mom's house.

I loved them - they were different - the front was two little stick figure faces [you picked out ones that looked most like the bride and groom]. Then attached was a real [meaning 3-d] tiny peice of tulle on the bride, and a real tiny bowtie on the groom. Our wording, since kev's family is divorced and remarried, was something like "together with their parents, Kevin and Libby invite you blah blah blah"

We figured if people didn't know us by our first names, then why are they invited to our wedding? : )

I have only recieved one invite with a picture on it and I really liked it. Often times our "Save the Date" cards are the ones with pictures on them.

Our thank you notes had pictures of us on them, a wedding picture, and people liked that.

Chan -- I think that's a nice touch as well (re: photo w/ the thank you). I've received a few photos over the years in a thank you and LOVE having a nice photo to display after the fact, especially if I forgot to bring my own camera ;)

We got loads of compliments on them, I was wearing my "cape" in the picture so a lot of people hadn't gotten a chance to see me in the cape thing...I know a few people put them on display at their house. It was cool!

I've never been invited to any Mormon weddings, so I wouldn't know! :) Actually, my parents (NOT Mormon) had a picture in their wedding invitation 34 years ago. In fact, my dad was almost insistent that we do the same thing when we got our wedding invitations, but we declined the idea. At the time, I thought it was something that was "70's" because that's when my parents got married. I was wrong! I've seen plenty of invitations like that recently. My best friend and her now-ex husband had a pic.....I think most people really like that sort of thing.

I didn't realize that Mormons often included photos in invites. I think it's a nice touch. I know that I have rec'd a photo or two on invites over the years. I think it's especially nice if the couple has friends & family all over who might not have seen a photo w/ an engagement notice in the paper. Plus I'm a sucker for photos of happy couples :)
