A new Percy story

Jan 21, 2007 20:56

This is a little missing moment from Chamber of Secrets with Arthur and Percy from Arthur's perspective. I was inspired by the way Mandrakes are used in other works of literature and their historical mythological connotations. I hope it is enjoyable and that a few Percy-fans might find it ( Read more... )

Wow - so good. I imagine that it would be very hard to be a parent to a personality like Percy's when you are so fun loving like Arthur. You did a great job showing a parents love and trying to reach out because you love them all despite/because of their differences.

So is the effect of the mandrakes permanent then? Will anyone mention this to Hermione or will she work it out for herself?

You know the way I thought about Hermione was that at her age in CoS she wouldn't have been of reproductive age yet, so Penelope would have been the only one that this side-effect of the mandrakes would have been at issue.

Hmm...now you've made me start thinking...I wonder if Molly ever took mandrake for anything and that's why we have so many Weasleys...hmm...(maybe there's a prequel in here somewhere!)

Thanks so much for reading!

Arthur took a deep breath. Why was this so difficult with this boy? Bill would have been two steps ahead of him. Charlie would have laughed and ordered another Runespeller.

I love this little comment outlining the difference between the three oldest Weasley boys and your characterization of the awkwardness between Arthur and Percy, and yet Rosmerta's commentary on how similar they are too. You do a good job of reminding us that Percy is a Gryffindor, a Weasley and sympathetic, even if he has behaved like a prat in certain situations.

Dumbledore's foreshadowing about leaving the crack is wonderful -- I hope there is a Percy to return through that crack at the end of Hallows

Oh thanks! He's always sympathetic to me. I love his good qualities and find his flaws frustrating and all too human.

I desperately hope there is a Percy at the end of Hallows too. I feel pretty sure Jo has something major planned for him in Book 7 and I am crossing my fingers that it will be something that will prove his place as a Weasley and a Gryffindor.

Thanks so much for reading and for the support!

Hm, I'm trying to find words to express what I like best about this story. On the one hand, it feels completely original, so far removed from the normal fan fiction I read. And on the other, it feels real, like it could be part of canon. It fits in perfectly with the feel, if you see what I mean ( ... )

James, thank you so much. I love having you read and really value your feedback. I think this one has some room for improvement but it certainly was a fun concept to play with.

I have worked with kids like Percy and I'm always a little amazed by them - that kid who just doesn't mess up and who just keeps pushing themselves on every front. I think that Dumbledore would look at Percy with both a level of appreciation and concern.

The Dumbledore dialogue was the part I was most unsure about. It wasn't how I originally ended the story, but it did allow me to play with some of the other Percy/Arthur issues. It's funny that you thought about Luna. I've never thought about them as being similar, but Percy does say that Dumbledore is mad but brilliant, so I could see that.

Thanks again for reading and for your support!

Oh thank you! St. Margarets is the best to be such a good friend and supporter. I'm glad you enjoyed. It was fun for me to do a younger Percy who is less confident and less mature than the Percy I usually write.

Aww, this is adorable. I love Arthur trying to give Percy tasteful advice and poor Percy going red. Still, what Arthur has to say is quite important, so good for him! I love the little bit with the butterfly - trust Dumbledore.

Starsea (friending you, btw)
