This is a little missing moment from Chamber of Secrets with Arthur and Percy from Arthur's perspective. I was inspired by the way Mandrakes are used in other works of literature and their historical mythological connotations. I hope it is enjoyable and that a few Percy-fans might find it

So is the effect of the mandrakes permanent then? Will anyone mention this to Hermione or will she work it out for herself?

Hmm...now you've made me start thinking...I wonder if Molly ever took mandrake for anything and that's why we have so many Weasleys...hmm...(maybe there's a prequel in here somewhere!)
Thanks so much for reading!

I love this little comment outlining the difference between the three oldest Weasley boys and your characterization of the awkwardness between Arthur and Percy, and yet Rosmerta's commentary on how similar they are too. You do a good job of reminding us that Percy is a Gryffindor, a Weasley and sympathetic, even if he has behaved like a prat in certain situations.
Dumbledore's foreshadowing about leaving the crack is wonderful -- I hope there is a Percy to return through that crack at the end of Hallows

I desperately hope there is a Percy at the end of Hallows too. I feel pretty sure Jo has something major planned for him in Book 7 and I am crossing my fingers that it will be something that will prove his place as a Weasley and a Gryffindor.

I have worked with kids like Percy and I'm always a little amazed by them - that kid who just doesn't mess up and who just keeps pushing themselves on every front. I think that Dumbledore would look at Percy with both a level of appreciation and concern.
The Dumbledore dialogue was the part I was most unsure about. It wasn't how I originally ended the story, but it did allow me to play with some of the other Percy/Arthur issues. It's funny that you thought about Luna. I've never thought about them as being similar, but Percy does say that Dumbledore is mad but brilliant, so I could see that.
