36 week appointment

Jun 29, 2011 12:04

So I had my 36 week appointment today, and a growth ultrasound. They're estimating him to be 6 lbs, 2 oz now, and my OB said that would make him 8 or 8.5 lbs at birth. I'm having a C-section at 39 weeks - aren't babies supposed to gain half a pound a week at this point? So if I have three weeks left, wouldn't that put him at more like 7.5-8 lbs at ( Read more... )

I'm also concerned cuz I keep gaining 2 lbs a week even though I'm hardly eating anything at this point cuz I have no room for food! I'm just terrified of having a huge baby :-P

I had heard that half a pound a week was pretty average. My mom was 5'1 and 90lbs when she gave birth to my brother, vaginally, who ended up being 11lbs, hahaha -- your body can do amazing things! I'm hoping the little guy in me stays under the 9lbs mark!

I'm not worried about carrying a big baby or having a C-section with a big baby, I'm worried about lugging around a big baby post-partum! I had a horrible recovery from my last C-section so it was helpful that he only weighed 7 lbs. Obviously I'm not saying I want an underweight baby, don't get me wrong, haha.

No no, I wasn't thinking that at all, hahaha! That's my biggest worry about ending up with a c-section as well -- the recovery. Pete has to go back to work right away, and I'm afraid of being able to take care of the dogs and the baby!

I definitely understand that fear as my husband will probably go back to Afghanistan about 4-5 days after the birth. I didn't have a problem lifting or holding my son even with a bad C-section recovery but he was small (or average, I guess) so when my OB said "8.5 pounds" today I told her I was gunna cry :-P

I'm big right now and i'm still worried about having a huge baby (I was 6lbs 6oz when born, but my husband was like huge). Last night I had a dream (nightmare) that my baby weighed TWENTY LBS and tore my shit up. Seriously wtf pregnant woman dreams? I think any size below that I will be happy with now :3

I've always wanted to say I love your icon btw !

I have been measuring 1-2 weeks behind for a long time but I keep gaining more weight than I think I should so I dunno what to expect!

And yes, Bulbasaur is pretty awesome ;-)

I have my appointment tomorrow. I'm a little excited about the ultrasound. One of my baby books says at this point baby gains about a 1oz a day. And the 8 lbs mark is actually normal according to the growth charts at least from what i've read.

8 lbs just seems big to me since my son was only 7 lbs and is still small for his age.

with my second they did an ultrasound and did the whole "OMG we have to induce she is way ready and all" when they tried to break my water the doctor told me she would be between 7-7.5 lbs. She ended up 9.2. I am normally 102 and 5 foot even. I gained 45 lbs all in my stomach with her. My cousin had a 9.9 for her first son and he was so big they had to use forceps even with the c-section and he had to wear some head gear because his head ended up flat. She was seriously up and around and actually posted photos on facebook of her at a concert the next weekend so I can tell you our bodies are definitely made to do some crazy things!

I always wonder why they tell you not to hold anything bigger than your baby for the first 6 weeks. I mean we carry (or used to) them in the car seat which is at least 7 lbs more weight.

Now you have me all freaked out that the ultrasound estimate was low and I'm gunna have a 9 pounder! LOL. I started at 105 and weigh 133 now. I don't even eat more now than I did pre-pregnancy!

They told mr to not carry anything heavier than my baby IN the carseat but I was really careful because my recovery sucked. I'm hoping this time since it's a scheduled C-section, it will go smoother.
