CIFF 35: day one
Just a short set of notes, so that I don't forget myself...
Hamill: opening film Thursday night. Good, but not great. Liked the audio cut-overs to the protagonist's PoV (including partly blank subtitles for lip-reading). Once again, _internal_ discrimination within a community that is itself discriminated against makes an appearance.

36th annual CWRU Sci-Fi Marathon
Finally under way. We've made it through the first 2 1/2 films without major mishaps--unless you count the existence of "Battlefield Earth" (Surprise #1) as a 'mishap' :-)
Fortunately, the other 2 surprises are (very) non-bogus. Should be a good weekend! -

Another year, another showing of "Casablanca"
Warner Bros. sent us an really nice archive print of "Casablanca"--which they do only for theaters like the CWRU Film Society or the Cleveland Cinematheque, where we can run the print reel-to-reel on two projectors without cutting or splicing the leaders ( Read more... ) -
