booster seats

Dec 10, 2010 21:34

I imagine that many of you have switched your 4 yr olds to booster seats from the convertible type. I'm looking for the inside scoop on the booster seats. What's your opinion of them, favorable or not, and what seats do you prefer, or know to have been rated the safest?
Thanks,
Pam and Gitan

we're broke as broke. she's in a high-back belt-adjuster in one car that we got for free from a friend and a backless booster in the other car. She's tall as heck and will likely be tall enough to fit the seat belts in our car properly in the next 9-12 months, 3 years before she's even legal to be out of a booster (not that it means we're taking her out, just saying, it's not like she's in a seat that doesn't fit properly)

Donovan is still in a convertible carseat. I can't imagine switching him until he reached the weight limit.

I need to look up the weight limit for the Britax marathon, it's been so many years now I can't remember, I only know that it's getting tight. What a great group, I thank everyone for so many responses.

We reached the weight limit of our convertible (Britax Roundabout, good to 40lbs) but I still wanted the 5-pt harness. We got a Britax Frontier 85. Love it. He can stay in it until 85 lbs. Then it converts to a belt-positioning booster. I expect this to last us until he doesn't need any seat at all, years from now.

I recently became a certified car seat technician.
The safest seat is one that fits your child, fits your vehicle and that you can use easily.

There is nothing wrong with the high back booster that separates, it's staying together isn't what's keeping them safe at all, it's keeping the belt properly placed across the body and (depending on your vehicle) supplying the head rest.

Thanks Amanda, the best, most sober advice. I went to the Britax sight and relearned that the weight limit for my seats is 65lbs--we're no where near that, so we're good for a while yet. I'll check back in with everyone in a year or two!

Dominic is still in the 5 pt-harness, and I don't plan on moving him out of it until I can trust him more! With his sister, I waited until the 5th birthday, so probably then.
