It's occurred to me recently that I have no idea what I'm doing with my life. Well. My life after RAGS, anyway. There isn't an area of study that interests me enough to feel like spending so much money on for college. I know, I know, there's so much expectation of going to college and all, but...I'm not really passionate about any particular ( Read more... )

Perhaps you can try a few internships or part time jobs to find out what you might be happy with?

College is but a stepping stone, isn't it? You go if you have to to reach your goal, that is all~

Possibly. But I really have no clue where to start, what kind of job to try first.

Heh, yeah. That's pretty much how I'm looking at it, at least for now. If it turns out I find something I want to do, and it requires going to college for, then I'll go. But until then, I'm not going to let myself stress it.

I think you'll be a good at a number of things. Just see if anything catches your eye, I suppose! Or talk to Shiba-sensei about it.

Considering that the programme of this school overlaps a bit with college, we might not have to go for the full number of years at all.

On a somewhat related note, are you finding a job for summer?

Yeah...right now the lack of interest is the pressing thing. But I gotta start somewhere.

That would be awesome, since my old man is still paying for this.

I'm going to have to. Dad's strictly sending tuition money, now, and the little bits my grandma in Brazil sends, I'm being a good boy with and putting into savings.

Well, college is hardly required to get a job. In fact, only around 66% of people go to college. And you still have a while to decide what you want to be. I mean, average American switches jobs ten times.

Dunno whether that speaks about Americans being unable to decided what job they like or whether it's natural to be undecided about what you want to be.

Yeah, but I'm not American. XD I wonder what the stats are for average Japanese and average Brazillian....

I think at least to a point it's natural....I just wonder if I'm past that point.

(ooc: ten times? geeez.....and holy shit, I just counted. I'm on job #8 and I'm only 30! ><)

Hmm...research time! I'll see if I can find any interesting stats for Japanese or Brazilians....

And to be very honest, most of us are pretty clueless about what we want to do. I still haven't a clue about where I want to go or what I want to do. You've just got to follow what you think is right, when you think it's right.

(ooc: Yeah, I was shocked too, when I first heard the stat, but a lot of people I know are like that. Mostly I think it's because of the difficult nowadays to holding onto one job with one set of people, especially with the world's economy being dreadful. And haha, it's better than me. I'm on job #0 :P)

XDDDD I'll be looking forward to the results of your research.

Yeah, but it's hard to let go. My dad, when he was actively involved in my life, was always all about how he wanted me to have my life planned out by the time I was 16... Of course, he stopped pushing so hard after I got sent away to boarding school, but the expectation stuck to me.

(ooc: I do kind of feel like a total veteran at my current job. I've been there for 5 years now, and between that and 2 other locations, I've been doing it for a total of 9 years. OTL I WANT A NEW JOB )

Perhaps you would do well as a forest ranger then. You might have to take a few botany classes and the like, but you wear a uniform and...if your stretch of the forest doesn't end up burnt down in a forest fire, then that's hardly going to catch a lot of attention, is it?

Personally, I like botany. And protecting our forests is an important job ^_^

Hmmmmmmm. It's something to consider, at least, as long as the rangers aren't required to live out in the forest all by themselves or anything weird like that.

Some are. But most work at parks and go home at night unless they're on nightwatch. In which case they go home during the day ^_^

Hmmmmm. That might not be too bad. Something to look into, at least.

Great thing about college is you get to go whenever you want to. Nothing wrong with exploring first, the going to college after you've found something. If you want to get more into it, I wouldn't mind helping you out with that.

And yes, you've got lots of time. No need to feel pressured about it.

I guess so. I don't even know where to start exploring, though.

.... Do you have any of those test things where they ask about your interests and skills and then suggest future jobs based on your answers? Kajimoto sounds like he might wanna take one.

It's always a challenge, but maybe you could try checking out what different colleges have to offer. I could put together a couple of colleges for you. It would be a bit random but maybe showing you a variety might help you get some ideas.

Yes, I do actually. Would you like to take it together with Kajimoto-kun?

I don't know if I'm ready to explore colleges just yet. Maybe exploring jobs, so I can at least start saving money towards college someday...

Hahaha, no, thanks. Took a few of those at my last school and decided they're complete bull.

You should just go out and do something really cool while you're still figuring things out, like exploring volcanoes and things other people might give second thoughts to~ ♥

just_aflame May 27 2013, 13:46:39 UTC
That also requires money, though. And while I could explore volcanoes as far as the heat is concerned....I'd be really tempted to find out if my fire immunity applies to lava, too. But if it doesn't, that would be really bad.

Oh. Right. Mn...~ Think of it as an investment to what you might make later? The spending money to see what you might like, I mean, not the poking at liquid fire thing.

Or you can be one of those people on weird eats shows! :D

Heheh. Maybe. Gotta get some to invest, to start.

............Ew.
