The best way to learn how to write is to write. Local writing groups can be fun and helpful.

But some people will be in the writing group not because they're serious about getting published, but because they do writing as therapy. They hope to be published someday, but only if that doesn't involve actually writing something worth publishing and allowing the possibility of rejection.

You can probably put me into the category of "not serious about getting published," and sometimes even writing for therapy. I don't have any aspirations to be published, at least at this point, but I am interested in getting better. ;)

I like the idea of a writing group. Definitely something to think about.

Anthea - you are a good writer and I always enjoy reading what you have written. Don't let your friends skills or motivation demotivate you. You are awesome in your own way!!!
