You Should be Reading....The Hunger Games

Jul 20, 2009 10:29

I used to love reading, but during college that fell by the wayside and I never really picked it up again. But since I've been unemployed for a while, I decided that I should spend some of my free time by reading more than my usual trashy romance novels (yes, I'll admit to them). I got some recommendations from friends and jumped into things ( Read more... )

It sounds quite intriguing. Maybe I'll give it a whirl.

FYI, our library has it in their catalog in an On Order status and it's available to place on hold.

Like I said in the review, if you can deal with the premise, it's a great book. Definitely has its share of sad parts though.

It's not in the catalog yet, but I will keep checking to get my name on the list.

Hey there!
I read this book a couple of weeks ago and loved it so very much. I meant to post something a lot like this on my own journal but am supremely lazy/not in the mood for LJ land lately. I'm so glad you're spreading the word though. Great post- More folks need to read this book!

It's definitely a very interesting world, especially how the daily struggles of life in the districts and the sadisticness of the Capital are revealed slowly through the book. We definitely don't have a clear idea of who's controlling things in the Capital. The next book appears to be tackling that subject, at least as far as I could tell from the brief plot synopsis that I read this morning. Can't wait until September 1st!

There's a lot of surprises in the second book. It covers more ground than I expected timewise and goes in interesting and unforeseen directions!

Thanks! Oooh - is that a new icon? I wanted to find something else for myself so that all of us at the comm weren't running around with the exact same icons :P

Hey, romance novels are fun! I love 'em, myself. :)

Great review! I'm excited that people are enjoying the book and looking forward to the sequel. I actually just got a call from my grandmother about THG--said she thought it was excellent and demanded I tell her when the sequel comes out, lol.

Spirited and strong willed Katniss and the other players in the games, both on the field and off, are what gives the book its much needed scenes of hope amidst the gruesomeness of the games and the people who put them on.

ITA. The characters are what make the book for me too, just as with BSG.

Thanks! Just trying to get more people to get interested and read this book. Great characters are hard to let go and that's just the way it should be :)
