typically refers to Star Wars when Han enters the Falcon cockpit and switches stuff on and the control panel in the back dies.. he hits it and it comes back on... I basically moved a centrifuge an 1/8 of an inch and stopped it from making a horrible sound...

Umm, percussive maintenance only works so much. On things that spin, fast, and make noise, it can be especially bad. In this case you're probably moving a weight around which has shifted. I recommend you find the loose weight or part and fix it before it grinds something off important and becomes so unbalanced that it tries to chase you around thelab.
