The Gift - A Memorial

As many folks are now aware, Furp (evil_dwagon) was killed by a drunk driver last night. Though I'm still trying to cope with the loss of a dear friend, I believe it important to share a recent experience in Furp's memory ( Read more... )

I'm glad to see you posting here as it indicates you got home safely last night, but... what awful news to get home to.

I think I only "kind-of" met Furp - I probably sat round the same table in the foyer at EF at some point - but he seemed a very lively character. Kage called AntiCarrot "Eurofurp" (because they happened to look amazingly similar), but as I'd first met AntiCarrot quite a few years earlier I kept seeing Furp as "AmeriCarrot", as it were... A very odd experience!

I had a evening at FC some years ago which shared a few features with what you describe, at least enough that I can very much appreciate what you're saying. *hugs tight*

Wow, they really are similar. I'm still sorry about messing up our departure at Wimbledon. Bad spottycat! I got all wrapped up in getting to the airport and just assumed you'd not want a hug at an underground station. Even then, a goodbye would've been nice from me.

I'm thinking my phone is being difficult about international SMS; I don't think Twll got my 'In Chicago' message, either. I wish I was still in England, blissfully aware of a cruel world outside :/ I wish Furp was still here.

Don't worry about that, I can quite understand - you were being a goal-directed speedycat!

And you're right, I didn't get any SMS from you after your flight. I found once that when I was at a con in the USA my SMSes (from my UK phone) were getting to Slush's phone perfectly well, but his replies were vanishing into the ether, so it's definitely not a problem unique to your phone.

/me wraps a full set of bearpaws round Mr Spotty and serves as insulation from the world.

I ran into him as well, incognito. We'd flirted a bit in the evening, but I had heard rumor it was him. I followed him a bit at the balcony parties, and saw him again at the fursuit lounge. I flirted with him, to share some affection that someone I'd only known a little so long ago had grown to be someone so awesome, likable and giving. We talked about it afterward, and were making plans to possibly room together at an upcoming con.

It saddens me the chance to rekindle this friendship from long ago was cut short. Thank you for sharing this memory.

Thank you for adding to my memories with your own *pawhugs*. They're a wonderful addendum to why my weekend was so special.
