I loved Donnie Darko! It was a wonderful story about the coincidences that make up your life and how changing them can actually make things worse. And Jake Gyllenhaal is HOT!

No DOUBT about Jakey! But as a whole, the movie just did not make sense to me.

Then again I had to see the Matrix three times to make any sense of it. Now I understand it completely.

Normally I'd be upset when someone spoils a movie I want to see, but now I want to see it more, simply because your explanation was funny as shit.

Typically I WOULDN'T spoil a movie, but after its been out on DVD for over 5 years I think there is a bit of a threshhold.

And trust me - even my description didn't really spoil it because you still wouldn't know what the fuck was happening. :)

If you didn't like that movie, I don't recommend seeing Momento. Yikes.

I love Donnie Darko, but I can certainly see why it's not for everyone :)

I always wanted to see Memento but never got around to it. That movie would have been hard to follow yes, but I think in the end didnt it somewhat makes sense?

This one just was so far out there that trying to make any sense of it would be impossible.

I still love Jake though - probably even more because his acting was spectacular.

My theory doesn't quite "mesh" with the current popular theory (which is based on the filmmaker's vision and the mythos of the movie, blah blah), but it makes more sense to me.

At the beginning of the movie, it was revealed that Donnie had stopped taking the pills because they were making him hallucinate, right? He took a couple of pills before his mother came in to talk to him. And so... the entire movie is a hallucination that Donnie has in his own mind about how important he is to the entire world or something, and of his own worth. And then he dies, happy with himself.

In doing some brief research, one theory out there does mesh with yours, in that "Frank", as a sort of ability of Donnie's to see the future, shows him what would happen if he doesnt sacrifice himself for the good of the world. Donnie decides to stay in his room and sacrifice himself as a result.

The main problem point out with that is "where does the jet engine come from then if not from the jet in the future". But my response to that is that in the very end, they don't say that where the jet engine came from is a mystery, only in the "reality" that is Donnies vision os that particular thing a mystery. Ugh, I hate paradoxes!
