No.

A week ago my psych put me on a regime of mitrazepine, 15 milligrams daily, in addition to the escitalopram, also 15 milligrams daily. The adjustment of medication has not had the desired effect so far; only the side-effects have manifested.

The noted symptoms include
  • drying of mouth
  • slight apathy
  • elevated appetite -- I have to be eating ( Read more... )

Mitrazepine is famed for the "eating sugar straight out of the bag" effect, as CrazyMeds puts it.

Keep on keeping on. I feel like a convert to some new religion, but there very well may be a drug out there that will help you with your symptoms and have little to no side effects for you. My current cocktail is really fantastic. It's just taken me, um, 5 years to get to.

Heh. Whenever we are adjusting my meds I notice I'm thinking "but I don't want a long-duration medication for a temporary situation" even though I am aware that the condition is really chronical.

Even though I'm already on Valium for sleep, when I'm having a particularly difficult time my doctor doesn't hesitate to prescribe me some Ambien (zolpidem) for awhile. Insomnia can only exacerbate your problems, and zolpidem is really a short term kind of medication.

So, if looking back, you find that the insomnia is an infrequent or occasional side effect of an episode of depression, it may in fact be more efficacious to get a few sleeping pills when you need them and then chuck them when you don't.

On the other hand, when you're sleeping badly EVERY night... yeah, that's pretty chronic.

Yes, I noticed that decrease over time with my primary drug. The first week or two took some getting used to, but after that there was nothing that I recognized as a side effect any more.

do you suffer from any recognizable OCD Rituals?

Not really; I'm primarily a depressive. There are some OCD-ish features, but they are minor.
- when I take water from the tap to any container, be it glass, mug, pot, or whatever, when I have reached the desired amount and shut the water, I then add a splash of the water
- at the office I want my tea breaks and lunch at precisely known times; at home it doesn't seem to matter
- I'm a bit upset if "my" spot is taken at the office canteen or the meeting room
- I correct the punctuation on my colleagues' away-notices on their office doors

Bummer. Mucking up your sleep when you started the stuff to help you sleep better? Not good. Well at least you're on top of it. Here's to better drugs.

I'm pretty sure the sleep thing will sort itself out when I get a bit more rest from work.

Tea in the morning and during the day, a moderate dose of chockolate in the afternoon, that's what I'm prescribing for myself.
