What is your number one reason to vote for John McCain?

I appreciate his history of standing up to his own party and a fair amount of the legislation he's sponsored (the campaign funding bill most of all), and I appreciate his choice of a running mate, despite her inexperience.

What is your number one reason to vote against John McCain?

I'm not really sure, but he seems to be doing a lot of kowtowing to the Republican party lately (voted with the party 90% of the time if I remember the stats correctly), and given their abysmal track record over the last eight years, I don't really want a Republican in office.

What is your number one reason to vote for Barack Obama?

I love his message of unity, hope and change, and that he managed to get universal healthcare for children implemented in Illinois.

What is your number one reason to vote against Barack Obama? He's got the most liberal voting record in the Senate, which doesn't always sit well with me because I'm fiscally conservative, and he has failed to nail down the specifics of ( ... )

Heh- basically my number one reasons to vote against both candidates have to do with the fact that they're pretty extreme on either end of the spectrum, and I'd prefer a more moderate candidate :)

That noise you hear is the ghost of Al Gore wanting to show you three ghosts that will show you how eight years of responsible environmental policy would have benefitted the country (and the world).

What is your number one reason to vote for John McCain?

He occasionally breaks with his party, though not as often as people thinks he does.

What is your number one reason to vote against John McCain?

Man, where to start? Cozies up to religious nutbags and picked one as his VP, voted with the WORST PRESIDENT EVER over 90% of the time, wants to drill the fuck out of America, thinks you are "rich" once you earn 5 million a year.

What is your number one reason to vote for Barack Obama?

He isn't a Republican. He seems like a good guy. Health care reform. Likes science. Doesn't want to melt the planet while waiting for baby Jesus to hoover us into space.

What is your number one reason to vote against Barack Obama?

He isn't radical enough?

my concern with obama is that he will be pushed even further to the center than he is.

my reason for voting for him is that i feel the country needs a new roosevelt (the one that saves the poor, NOT the one that shoots moose).

i would never vote for john mccain. ever. for any reason.

i am voting against him because i am concerned that he will be pushed even further to the right than he already is - which is clear through his VP choice.

Regarding your concern about Obama: is that a concern with dems in general, or with Obama in specific? Ie do you think that he's more susceptible to being pushed rightward than other dems?

(I'm still clinging to my theory that Palin isn't their final choice, but just a stopgap that allows them to pander to the far right, play themselves off as "feminist," and gain more time to line up their VP ducks until she steps down at an agreed-upon moment and everyone cheers "family values!" Based on my crazy theory, I think the "true" veep choice will be someone who is thought of as more centrist than Palin (eg Lieberman, Rice, &c).)

My reasons are mythworker's, to the letter. More than anything else, though, I have come to see this election as a referendum on whether America is able to reject the knee-jerk anti-intellectualism that conservatives have been pushing for too long.

Thanks for starting this thread!

i figured it was an easy way to cut to the chase, because it seems like these days we spend more time talking shit than actually talking about WHY we want the things we want.

I honestly think most people don't know. It seems we don't even know how to figure out why or realize it'd be worthwhile to know. I've had it up the ass with pseudo-intellectual bullshit cum coffee. It would be refreshing to meet someone who actually knows why they want what (they say) they want and is willing to admit it.

Even when I answered, trying to be honest, I realize I didn't tell you the whole truth. I told you why my truth is justified to myself and thought it was the why. But maybe, in the end, voting for Obama just makes me feel better about myself.

re your request for details - i am actually skeptical of plans that are TOO detailed during election seasons. it seems like it will inevitably result in broken promises.

you know?

Yeah, I can get that. But I'd like something that has a framework. It doesn't have to have dates or get crazy detailed - there is a lot they can't control!, but a nice general outline of the direction they are going to attempt this in would be reassuring. I might think they were doing more than posturing...

Not that you can always warn people of your intent. SURPRISE POLITICAL ATTACK!
