Hopes & Fears

UK project continues to drag. The guy is losing patience a lot slower than I would've. If he lets me finish, I get about $1700, though I offered him an unspecified discount because of the delays, which are caused by unrelated stressing issues. If he says no, I lose a lot of points on RentACoder, don't get paid, but the stress is off. ( Read more... )

I've got a lead in jobstuffs at the moment too, though I'm in "don't be hopeful, don't be hopeful" mode. It seems to be a position doing stuff very similar to my last job, at a company very similar in business to my last company, only without quite as many equivalent hindering ethics. Appropriately, the recruiter's disclosed to me that she thinks it can go for more than half again what my last job did -- and I felt slightly overpaid there.

Granted, I suspect this job would actually have stuff for me to do, unlike the last one. Probably a lot of it.

As to the matter that the company is apparently a little less ethically scrupulous than some... I've always been a firm believer that everybody has a price. Maybe not money, maybe not tangible at all, but -something-. The number mentioned for this salary, especially at my current level of finances, is roughly double my price.

Man, it's sad that it's a mode. Good luck, I hope it works out. But I've found that my price tends to go up when I start putting money in the bank. Either that or I just get sick of bullshit really fast.
