Having asked my boss for a substantial raise, which is something I've never done, I'm particularly fascinated by what I've just read. I'm currently reading Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations. Agile is a lot like Communism - it disincentivizes hard work, ignores peoples' motivation, marginalizes high performers, pretends everyone is the same, and calls itself a "revolution" in spite of being forced on its participants. But it's great in theory.

I find myself annoyed and sickened. I'm disinclined to go to the Dancy McDance next week, or at all, anymore, except for the major events, because it appears everyone else has accepted the return of Dog Starvin' Christine. I want to finish my degree. I'm tired of dropout status as an albatross. And I think it makes sense to finish in CS, because it's the most relevant to my career, and it won't demand much in the way of time. But I have no idea how to approach FAU and tell them this. In spite of getting enough sleep lately, I slept for three hours on the futon after work today. I remember having this problem while at Revelex, but don't remember what the solution was. I have just gone through some of the sloppiest, least professional, most inconsistent, most horrible code I've ever seen. (It was not written by my new company.) UK project continues to drag. The guy is losing patience a lot slower than I would've. If he lets me finish, I get about $1700, though I offered him an unspecified discount because of the delays, which are caused by unrelated stressing issues. If he says no, I lose a lot of points on RentACoder, don't get paid, but the stress is off. ( Read more... )
