So, we were at home last night watching a documentary on
Ferenc Puskas. And they were nattering on about world events in 1950.
ME: Hey, know what else happened in 1950?
deridere: Shut up.
ME: What?
deridere: Just shut up. I know what you were going to say.

World Cup babbling ensues beneath the cut )

If we had a second strike with good wheels (i.e. Charlie Davies before that horrific accident) then I'd give us a puncher's chance because your central defense is slow and in the case of EBJT, foul prone. Also, I don't care which of the three you start in net, your keepers are iffy.
That said, I could easily see a boring 2-0 or 3-1 game in your favor.
Interesting: our best national soccer writer (Grant Wahl) has predicted that Serbia will win Group D which would mean in the first knockout stage you guys most likely get matched with . . . (wait for it) . . . Germany.

Also - did you look at your line-up and see where each member of the US National team is currently playing? Little Trinidad!

I did and out of our likely starters, our right back, one of central defenders, our right midfielder, our keeper and our best striker all played in Ol' Blighty last year. (Assuming Ol' Blighty is England and not Scotland.) Five out of 11 ain't bad. And it should be noted that we will not be fielding people of the ilk of England's Brave John Terry -- even we have some standards.
