And now ma's gone, and he'll never know.
Just some noodle steam in his eyes, that's all. "So are you a local, or how long have you been in town? I think I'd remember you if we'd met before."

"I've lived here for over a decade. I keep to myself." His lips quirk as he looks back at Lu Ten. "I...may have seen you around before. How long have you lived here?"

"Born and raised. Did some traveling when I was younger, but I've pretty much settled down now." That is, when he was a child, his ma would take him along on her trips so she could look after him... and when he was older, he went to look after her.
And now, he has Republic City to look after.
He chuckles, slightly. "You don't seem like much of a loner to me. So where would you have run into me, hmm?" Maybe he's a fellow Equalist! Wouldn't that be convenient.

The Lieutenant, though--it's easier than he'd thought to simply tell him the truth. At least the uncomplicated parts of it.
"I was eating alone, wasn't I?" he says with a smile. "Ah--here and there. You seem familiar."
Perhaps he should figure out now exactly how much he means to give away. Why he's here at all.

I've been all over the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation - even went to an Air Temple when I was small. Never made it to a pole, though... always wanted to." Bit of a white lie, that - he doesn't think he could stand the cold. But with the right company...
