In what had been an altogether strange conversation, Amon had uncharacteristically mentioned having a favorite restaurant. And was very specific and exacting in making sure the Lieutenant knew the address. He's not exactly sure if it was a subtle hint not to harrass a particular business owner, or if Amon thought he was starting to look a little on

"It's quiet, late at night." When he's here, coincidentally.
Noatak makes an odd noise that quickly turns into a cough. "Ah--a pleasure," he says, shaking his hand. He doesn't--linger, exactly, but he...likes the feel of Lu Ten's hand in his.

He nods thoughtfully. "Good, that works a lot better with my schedule." Which... he probably shouldn't have mentioned before knowing a new acquaintance's, er, political leanings. If Lu Ten's lucky he won't inquire further.
So. Shit. What do people talk about when they're not fighting oppression? He's never been one to get out much, especially not lately. Is this lull in the conversation of a normal length? He just doesn't know, and blows on a... chopstickful of noodles while pondering social niceties.

It's your lucky day, Lu Ten--Noatak is a man who knows the value of discretion. "Mine as well."
Noatak seems comfortable with the silence, leisurely eating his sea prunes. Or perhaps he didn't--plan this, what he would do after seeing the Lieutenant.
"Are you part Water Tribe? Your eyes look blue in this light."
Hn, that will do. He has been curious.

He bites back the urge to find out more about the man, knowing he would have to reciprocate. Luckily, there's a nice, neutral topic of conversation all citizens of the United Republic fall back upon when they're tired of discussing the weather: ethnicity.
Face coloring a little, Lu Ten smiles down into his noodles and hopes his eyes look... fetching or some positive adjective. "On my father's side, I think. I'm pretty much a mutt, though; ma was Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom. I'm sure if it were possible for her to be part Air Nomad she would have been."
"How about you, anything fun lurking in your ancestry?" He just stops himself from mentioning how Noatak is kind of on the pale side for being full Water Tribe, because spirits, Lu Ten, you don't just ask someone why they're white. "Northern or Southern?"

Lu Ten's eyes look--different, at close quarters, without goggles masking their color.
His expression may have darkened a bit at that question--or it might just be a trick of the light. Either way, he responds in a perfectly normal tone. "Just Water Tribe." On his mother's side, at least. His father's--he didn't care. "Northern. You?"
