Babies need a theme?! This is brand new information.

Your theme will be Awesome. I have decreed it, thus it will be.

When I was a babba, I slept in mum and dad's room 'til I was almost 1, so my 'theme' was garish seventies wallpaper.

You haven't missed the boat - you just took the boat that says 'I will not force and mould my child to meet societal expectations', which is the very best boat to be on. Topanga Hobo'll tell you what she likes in her own time; in the mean time, she'll have books and love and toys and no end of exciting things around her.

*loves you*

I've just felt so weird whenever someone asks me, because I give them a look like, "umm.. theme?" and they look at me like I should know what they're talking about.

But, thank you. I think I needed everyone else to talk me down. :)

I love your approach! The best theme isn't a theme! Your theme is just... happy! Bright colors! Love! Sunshine! :) ♥

goodness, this is so so true. I can empathise a tiny bit; I'm the only girl, and I surprise my parents a lot, I think, by not necessarily being the girliest of girls. Your lj entry also makes me think that being female is particularly gendered (although it probably is for men; I just don't have that experience); would people ask the same questions if you were having a boy? It's so strange. The expectations we put on children because of their sex is very artificial and you're right (and awesome, but you knew that :P) to let your daughter pick what she wants, be it Barbies or pick up trucks ( ... )

That's a really good point about things possibly being even more gendered when one is a girl -- I wonder if there would be such questions and etc...

Hee, thank you! I need to remember to write up the explanation -- it's not actually that interesting, but I'm glad it's caught on as a nickname. I wanted to have one for her while she was in utero.
