My brother has the GTA San Andreas game, and I've seen him play it, and yeah, he hasn't killed anyone, but that game is absolutely disgusting to me. I don't condemn anyone who plays it, but honestly, I think there's something wrong with a game that allows you to beat your girlfriend with a metal pipe and then run her over with your car. And no, I don't think that it's right to blame a video game on some demented kid's murder spree, but that game and most other video games make me sick.
But then again, so does Metlife. haha Thanks for the freekatie article link--it was one of the scariest yet! she is officially a zombie!!
I agree that it is a very violent and disturbing game. But this is just lumped in as another example of parents not wanting anything to do with monitoring their kids. God forbid there's something offensive on TV that they would actually have to talk to their children about. And not for nothing...it's one think to have an impressionable young child playing GTA and acting more violent, not having a firm grasp of what's real and what's not. It's entirely another thing to have an 18 year old blaming a video game for his murders. That individusl has serious mental problems. And as I've said, I've played the heck out of those games, and I'm perfectly fine. Well, other than that time I beat up that hooker with a crowbar. But she had it coming!!
I find it interesting the the dr. on there talks about risk factors. I was pretty interested in risk and reslaiancy for a bit and from what I read even if you have a "high" amount of risk(as defined by society i.e. poverty, unstable home life, poor school system) does not mean you do not have high resiliancy. They have basically over simplified the whole concept of risk and resiliancy which really pisses me off. Everyones resiliancy level is different and obviously if 35 million are playing the game even all the people at "high" risk arent killing. gesh....blame anyone but the parents, kid, community, or ecosystem the kid lives in....yeah its the video game...damn it makes me angry
