Recently, I found myself thinking about my personal history on the Internet, particularly as regards my various groups of online friends ( Read more... )

God Modding? You customize deities?

(I think you mean "god moding", as in "god mode")

I wasn't sure which it was, either, but then I went and did a search for god moding and only found pages that defined god modding as something similar to what I associated with the term god moding, so I kind of suspect that the term has changed over time.

You must remember that the primary users of the term are gamers. These are people who spell the second person pronoun "u" because they can't remember the other two letters, and think "gay" has an H and an E in it somewhere.

These days I mostly use the internet to interact with people I know "IN REAL LIFE" -- kind of a drag. I would love another online group like our old channel to always be able to count on for text-company! But I feel like I'm too... old (?!?!?!), or something, to join a new one. Old? 22? I don't know ( ... )

Man come on, meeting people online is no longer weird because it is the FUTURE.

Also I know multiple people who met on line and got like, married and shit. That means it is no longer a big deal to meet people on the internet.

(Additionally the older you get the cooler it is to have internet friends. Just sayin').

I was also just thinking about how I have spent a lot of time online and met a fair amount of people that way, which is pretty weird. WHY IS THIS SUBJECT ON EVERYONE'S MINDS?

We're getting all old and self-reflective! Or something.

I don't know that it's feeling too old, so much as... I'm kind of at a different place in my life, I guess? That sounds kind of cheesy, I suppose, but I kind of feel like I'm sort of settling down, and that maybe is what makes me feel a little bit too old for it too, I guess? I dunno. I mean, in high school, I stayed up all night regularly and the same in college, but now it's just... I dunno.

Also I have far less patience when it comes to putting up with other people's bullshit now.

You are there! Implied-wise, at least! In the webcomic fandom/artist/fanartist section.

...also I had forgotten how awesome your devil icon is.

I figured I was smooshed in there, in that section, but heaven forbid I resist the urge to use the Devil Icon (and to give someone a hard time)!

Ditto what Cata said about how it's been fantastic seeing everyone from the RFF grow up and change and flourish.

Also ditto that you should come check out the shiny new forum!

(How did I not know about these Civil War foxes? That would have been very relevant to my interests in 1998!)

If you're ever visiting California, let me know! We've known each other so long online that it actually surprises me to remember that we haven't met in person yet.

I know, right? How can we not have met? Well, aside from mostly being on opposite sides of the country, I suppose. But I know that I HAVE talked to you on the phone before! Though probably your voice is all different now.

If I am ever visiting California I will make you take me out to poke faults with sticks.

What I like is knowing someone for years and yet still not knowing, or at least being able to quickly recall, their real names or what they look like.

Ha, yes! There are some I remember better than others because they are on Facebook or use their real name and a picture of themselves for an icon, but there are definitely a good few where I just DON'T KNOW. Which is a bit weird at times, especially when I realize that I could probably pick a few of my more recent online acquaintances off the street more easily than some of the friends I've known for a decade.
