Recently, I found myself thinking about my personal history on the Internet, particularly as regards my various groups of online friends

I think I have fewer internet-friends than I may have had at one point. Nowadays I sometimes use the internet to find activities or friends for in-person. I keep wanting to keep in touch with people using phone or letters, but now that Facebook's become such a privacy mess, a lot of people aren't listing current mailing addresses or phone numbers. Alas. And then I feel weird about using Facebook itself to send messages. Bleh.
Oh, speaking of not being super into anthropomorphic animal stuff in general but nonetheless liking something related to it, I recently found a webcomic that's pretty cute. http://www.webcomicsnation.com/korybing/skindeep/
Premise: Mythological creatures exist, but some exist in human society, disguised. A college student named Michelle is freaked out when she discovers she's a sphinx. Even in the mythological creature world, those are supposedly extinct, so adventures ensue.
Oh, I love Skin Deep! I learned about it from... Tonje, I think, a little while back, and it's kind of weird that you are mentioning it right now because I was reading through some of the archives earlier today.
Wow. This really made me pause. I never gave it a lot of thought -- I try to balance my worlds a bit between RL and VL. Most of my existence was wiped out last year when Geocities finally was wiped. That was the last of the pre-dotcom crash places I still had stuff.
I'd been online since the BBS days of the mid-eighties, slowly evolving from a cradle-modem user, to 28k, 56k, and then stalling at DSL because I am inherently cheap.
I try to keep some tabs on each and every person I ever met online, yourself included. The old Bimbeau fanart you drew still gives me a smile.
Recently, though, I find the net more of a place of brief encounters, short attention spans, and the dreaded Facebook. Even IRC had more or less died.
How I hate Facebook, but due to large family circles maintain a page as of yet.

The guy who did Rice Boy just finished a second series, Order Of Tales, so now I've got another one to finish reading.
