You go with your bad self. She had no right to expect you to donate that which you would otherwise sell.

It seems very much like a "Hey! Gimme stuff!" Your response about only donating to local, registered charities seem very appropriate and reasonable, but that doesn't mean that the response will be either.

A 'modern' witch museum in Salem? tigersleeping February 19 2008, 03:46:46 UTC
Having visited Salem in August and did the full-on tourist thang, I am trying to think what she would cover in her museum which isn't already being covered by all the stores, existing witch museum, and community at large.

Admittedly, I am assuming she meant Salem, MA.

I will definitely have to contact a few folks and find out.

I am one of Honeywine's LJ friends so I will apologize in advance if you are part of the Salem crew. Otherwise, I would have to marvel at her gall. Afterall, it is bad enough to pull the 'Gimme, you should be honored,' bit - but to contact someone OUTSIDE of Salem and not expect a backlash? Hmmmmm....

I was honestly baffled by the request. And yes, she did mean Salem, MA.

She claims in her emails that "other museums" are all about history, and she wants hers to be about modern witches. I've never been to Salem, but I've heard about it from others who have been there, so I couldn't figure out what she hoped to gain from this whole exercise really (other than a nice BOS).

Honestly, it just really struck me as a way to get free stuff for herself - especially after sending the second email. Certainly, if she's really opening a museum, she should have a business plan and the funding to pay for what she's trying to do, and should start with local folks for donations.
