More Persona 4

So, there's a little more Persona 4 news, there's a twenty minute trailer out now, in Japanese, looks just as awesome as Persona 3 did.
Just a few random thoughts: )

I'm finally getting around to playing Chrono Trigger, and I've got to say, it is indeed most excellent. I still think Dragon Quest VIII is a better RPG, though only slightly better.

So I've never played any of the Persona games. Could I play 3 and still know what's going on? Like, would there be any benefit from trying to play the original games first?

3 is pretty much stand alone, there's a couple of cute nods to earlier characters, that are just very small references that are completely unrelated to the game ( ... )

Hm. I may have to check this out, then. Too bad I'm totally broke at the moment.

You have till April to save up :P.

Actually though, I mean, once I get FES, and beat my original copy of Persona 3 (saves don't transfer over, sadly) I can let you borrow Persona 3 indefinitely. FES is an expansion pack pretty much, which, while Episode Aigis is interesting, the main game itself isn't changed that much, from my understanding (just more Personae, different outfits, and social links).

I wiki'd the Megami Tensei series the other day, and was kinda shocked to see how many games and spin-offs there are.

I didn't really feel all that pulled by Digital Devil Saga, but the success of the franchise makes me wonder if I'm missing out on something.

Well, the actual Shin Megami games (the ones that are titled Shin Megami Tensei) have good plots, but their very sparse, so you have to enjoy the gameplay. The two DDS games are an attempt to bridge the Shin Megami style games with Final Fantasy type games, so it might come off a bit oddly. The Persona games though, are all really good.

They do take some time getting used to, and if you were ever going to start, most people agree Persona 3 is a really good place to start, as it's not quite as difficult as the others, has a decent plot, and it just really enjoyable.

I saw swords too, I'm just hoping that at the start it's more household weapons (or even just your first weapons) and then you get awesome swords.

And yeah, I'm disappointed by the ones they took from Nocturne and all, but then, they looked like that in the original Shin Megami Games, just... 2d.
