Ah, young (but not really) love...

I seem to have fallen into a new fandom. And yet, not new. Sort of. The fandom in question is House, which I got hooked on after watching a seemingly innocent mini-marathon on USA this past weekend. (The first taste is always free.) And it occurs to me that House and Rodney McKay are not all that different. I mean yes, different specialities ( Read more... )

fandom, house

Outstanding, thank you! You always pick the good stories, so I'll pop over and check them out.

house/wilson is my other otp after ryan/colin.......i've read quite a few chaptered stories that i've liked.....i'll try to wade back through and find them over the next few days.

i've thought about writing them, but the fandom as a whole seems to be a bit brutal. but i would give you much love if you started to ship them!!!!!

House/Wilson is awesome, isn't it? Very complicated friendship, that. As for a brutal fandom, well... I suppose that would go with a rather brutal lead character. House can be pretty mean sometimes. Not like the WL fandom, which is largely laughter and silly slash based. *g*

Woobie?

I never thought of comparing House to McKay, though I have to say both are my favourite characters in their shows despite the cuddlyness of other characters.

I've not noticed any subtext, but I can be pretty bad at that so I don't mind.

Have you not been indoctrinated on the Ways of the Woobie? It's one of those fanwords that means nothing to people who don't spend the better part of their free time on the internet, speculating as to the private lives of fictional characters. I think the general definition of a woobie is someone who looks particularly vulnerable and clueless and puppy eyed for a moment. Or something. It's a flexible term.

As for subtext, it's definitely there between House and Wilson, but then I tend to read heavily into these relationships because of my slash goggles. ^_^

I think I should've been, with the amount of time I've spent on SG1 whump-fic.
Woobie is exactly the right word for the way some people look certain moments. I'm sure I will use it a lot. In my head, at least.

Though I do occasionally make an effort to look for the slashiness, I don't normally see it automatically. Slash goggles are not my default vision.
I did notice that that one guy was totally sleeping with that other guy in that new BBC drama (new ep tonight! Yay!), though.

Did I read mention of older Hugh Laurie sketches on YouTube? Any Fry & Laurie among those?

Oh yes, oodles of Fry and Laurie. Also some Jeeves and Wooster, and a few House clips, although most of the House ones are fanvids set to music. Before Youtube, I never knew that Hugh Laurie could also play several instruments and sing. Multi-talented guy.

Okay, so I don't really know you, except for that you write really awesome Nick/Grissom fics, and I was browsing through your journal looking for some good reads, when I saw this, and cried, "HOUSE!". Because if "CSI" is my first love, "House" is definitely my second. What you need is topaz_eyes's Amazing Rec Page of Utter Amazingness. It has over 100 House/Wilson fics, all of which rocketh.
