The funny part is imagining someone who has grown out of this going back and reading their old stuff and being appalled. I mean, I've done some odd things in my time and I wince to think of them now, but nothing on this scale.
*cringe* I can think back to my teenage life cringing a bit, but at least I didn't record my weirdness for posterity. At least, I think I didn't. I'm fairly sure I nuked that MKA site I once made...
I've googled Harmonians, but all I get is links for Harmonicas. But then I probably don't want to know about that particular wank anyway.
Oh, probably not. Harmonians (I may be spelling that wrong) are shippers who insist that Harry/Hermione is the Only True Pairing and anyone who opposes them must be met with carpet bombs of wank.
Now, see, I thought "batshit insane" might be amusing hyperbole, and that I would find something to snort at behind the link, but OH MY GOD!!!! wtf? people? I've known some crazy ass people. I've had them as roommates, this is soooo beyond any level I could imagine.
You are right about one thing, though, makes me feel downright stable.
Ah, I only wish it were hyperbole. This is the kind of crazy you can't fake, because even to fake it at this intensity over this much time, you have to be crazy. *g*
Oh, I have no doubt that there are some great things in the HP fandom. Any fandom that can inspire this level of dedication can, I'm sure, inspire some fantastic work. Maybe it's better that way, to have the really weird along with the really good. At least you're not bored.
What you do get in parts of HP fandom is a delicate balance of both. Some wicked squicky, but brilliantly written stories. (Magical creatures helps with this.)
And the wank is so amusing.
JKR described the people who thought that Hermione and Harry were going to get together as delusional. And they all sent the the dust covers from their books back to her in protest.
My theory is that all fandoms are pretty much the same: House has ended up on Fandom Wank. But Harry Potter fandom is so big that it has distorted the equivalent of the time-space continuum. (canon-fan continuum?)

I know fandom could get weird and HP fandom is generally best avoided, but, uhm, well...
I just hope people will grow out of this.

And while the wackiest fandom things are HP (although even that is not so bad as the Soul Bonders), some of the most brilliant things are HP, too.
(If you would like to see the other side of fandom, I can recommened a couple of really well put together HP fics.)
