It certainly is a nice feeling! I had to do it in my school parking lot, and that sucked. But I did it. As for the donut, mine lasted a week of driving a 50 mile round trip--my brother said it would, and I might as well until he was able to get new ones (had to get two do the treads would be 'even' and whatnot). So it should be okay for you. I just didn't go too fast with it. It says not over 55, as well.
Mine said not over 80, actually--and it managed to carry me into work okay. I'm totally getting a new one today after work, though, driving around with it makes me too nervous. And hooray for changing your own tire! *g*
That's awesome! Good job! Now just remember that the donuts are really only good for about 50 miles or so, so don't do any long distance relays with that on.
Oh, I know, and it's only about 25 miles into work, but I was still really nervous and babying the car this morning. But I got here! *g* And thanks for the cheers.
I wouldn't recommend it as a hobby, really. Very dirty and including rather a lot of cursing at the tire iron when the little lug nut things won't come undone.
Congrats on both the practice exam and the real life tire change test! I can't help but feel a little guilty for neglecting to teach you a life fundamental. Also happy almost birthday!
The closest thing i've ever come to changing a tire was watching and sniggering at my cousin trying to get to the tire under the car (her boyfriend had put extra fastenings on it, because the original fastening were half off), while eating ice-cream and watching with the baby. If I ever get a car though, changing tires will be the first thing on my to-learn list ;)
I figure tire changing is a needed skill, while oil changing is not, because hello, Jiffy Lube. Also, those under-car spare tire setups are made of teh eval.
The placement defies all logic, I suspect, and are there because the inventor got pissed off his feet and patented it before the hangover set in, and then the car manufacturers bought in to the idea because nothing is more entertaining than confused people (in theory) and since nobody could understand it, it gave the impression of being very clever. Seriously, give one valid reason why the spare tire should be unavailable when you need it?! aaaagh!
