For the first time ever, I went to a knitting expo/convention this weekend. It was fun! My cousin taught me how to crochet when we got back. It only took me two hours to learn the basic pattern of a gorgeous shawl. I have to go out and buy some yarn this week so I can start working on my new pattern. I must admit, I feel a little ridiculous about ( Read more... )

man, you got there early and the line was still long? i got there around 11 and almost peed in my pants when i saw that the line almost left the parking lot. definitely was not worth it. thankfully i didn't wait because i heard there wasn't anything good left.

do let us know when you finish the shawl.

it was insane, wasn't it? i'm so glad i left. i actually should have left sooner, but oh well! i think the vendors were a little overwhelmed at how crazy the sale was. i overheard them complaining that day. :) i don't think they predicted how obsessive SF women can be over their jeans!

my god, i was debating whether or not to go to that denim sample sale because i always pay full price on all those damn jeans [heck, i even ordered 2 pairs from revolveclothing.com recently] but the reasons why i didn't go are: 1)don't wanna freeze to death while waiting in line and 2)i already dropped $$ at the new agent provocateur!

but that knitting conventions sounded like tons of fun--i have a pair of needles and "practice" yarn on my floor but i haven't even tried to learn how to knit!

good thing you didn't go to the sample sale! it was insane. i think i prefer paying premium and shopping at neiman's or saks (which have some great deals on jeans at the right times).

you should take up knitting! it's sooo addicting. and satisfying! and really really easy. :)

where do you get your materials from?

i get my yarn from bay area yarn stores (sooooooo much better than going to a craft store like michaels). yarn stores usually have some really cute and fun patterns that are quite hip as well, like arm warmers and cool 1920's style hats. :)

Did you know that when you bought the shawls, I went online searching for the pattern? I don't know the crochet lingo as well as knitting but I studied for many nights. I gave up. :)

Yarn can be expensive. Search online for specials. http://secure.elann.com/frames.asp has huge specials. I also like http://www.jimmybeanswool.com/. They packed their wool with some candy, which I thought was a really nice personal, sweet touch. :)
