They disagree with it's application as citations to back up his assertions. It's not about "covering his ass", it's about Damore blatantly misrepresenting the data with false causes and correlations.

Remember back when there were small businesses? Bill's hardware and Jim's hardware competed in your town. Bills was larger, nicer, and a little cheaper, good for a quick run to buy a tool.
