Weather people had a tough time with this forecast, as we were right on a borderline between ice/freezing rain and lots of snow. We ended up with all snow, 21 inches at my house. Fun times! So, I knew there was bad weather forecasted for Texas, but didn't think much about it, other than, hope it's not too bad. Then, I got a phone call late last night from my mom, which is never good news. My great aunt and uncle are okay, but no longer have a house or a car. Call me crazy, but I've now officially signed up to walk a marathon in May. Training should start on December 27 if we follow the 20 week program timeline I've mostly been finding online. Most of them are pretty similar, so my walking partner and I just need to agree on what we want to cover for our long distance walks and we should be set. ( Read more... )

I could have sworn I've updated at least a few times this year, but LJ informs me my last update was last year, the day after my dad died. It's certainly been a crazy almost year. My dad passed away about 1:30 yesterday afternoon. His aides and my mom were getting him ready for a doctor's appointment, putting his pants on him, when he all of a sudden said he didn't feel right and couldn't breath. His oxygen levels dropped to less than 50% (from his normal 97-8%) and his doc said to call 911. They think he actually died in ( Read more... )

I told the boss I was leaving at noon, so I could let out the dog. Surprisingly, nobody wanted to let him out for me today! :) Normally my mom would, but no way was I making her go out in this weather. Winter storm Vulcan is most unwelcome. They changed our winter storm warning to a blizzard warning. Up to 20-24 inches of snow in my part of town predicted, with the storm starting around 11am and lasting through the night. Schools all closed last night. Businesses of course won't do that, so we're all likely to get let out early and still all try ( Read more... )
