"Sims 4 developer warns there won't be a Sims 5 if this one doesn't sell"

Oh shit, I guess I'd better run out and buy The Sims 4 right now! *eye roll*

How about you fuck off with your flaccid, none-too-subtle threats, EA. If anything, this makes me even less inclined to buy The Sims 4 than the piddling amount of inclination I was already at. Also, if The Sims 4 continues being the steaming pile that it apparently is ( Read more... )

game industry stuff (2014), ea sucks, games (2014), the sims

Ha ha. If I was into Sims in the first place (Never did get the appeal of the game personally) and had saw the apparent trainwreck Sims 4 is turning out to be, this news would have made me determined not to pick up the game.

Mind you, looking at it on a different angle, let's say I was interested in getting the game despite all the shit being said and shown about it - but just haven't gotten it yet due to having to wait til payday or something. Hearing EA threaten the future of the series like that to ring up sales (And seriously, if they went through with it, it'd probably result in them burying yet another game developer) would force me to drop all intents of getting the game.

In short, if EA wants a game to sell well, they had better dust off an old tactic from the 90's and probably make a good game to start with. Releasing a pile of shit and demanding everyone throw 60 bucks (plus expansions) at it shouldn't be rewarded with sales.

They've already long ago buried the original Maxis. The "Maxis" that exists today used to be called "EA Play" and is just yet another shitty arm of EA with few, if any, of the original Maxis devs still around (Will Wright, for instance, jumped ship over five years ago... and we've heard very little from him since then). For years the only games they made, prior to the "Maxis" label being randomly slapped back onto Sims games out of the blue as of the last three Sims 3 expansions, was Spore and Darkspore. The Maxis logo was on Sims 2 and expansions prior to the Pets expansion, but after that, EA itself started taking sole credit. Now, however, when shit started spiraling down the toilet, EA was more than willing to let "Maxis" take the full blame, and I'm sure they'll do the same again if/when Sims 4 tanks.
