Classic Who and You!

Jun 24, 2011 00:23

Right, so I've gotten 2 or 3 requests for advice lately from folks who are fans of the new Doctor Who series and also want to discover the original series that spawned it but are lost, intimidated or unsure where to start. If that describes you, this post is for you! :~) If not, feel free to ignore or peruse as you wish ( Read more... )

*grins* Glad you liked it!

I certainly enjoyed writing it too :~)

I knew you were a fan from way back, but didn't know you'd seen so much of the classic series. Very nice!

See you this weekend, looks like *grins*

That actually explains a lot about the DVDs I saw the other day at barnes and noble; I though it was just a single episode and didn't realize it was a whole story arc. Any suggestions on a good place to start with the classic who? I've seen some of the newer series. Mostly Christopher Eccelston though.

See ya,

Well, I think a very good introduction to classic Who might well be the superb 'Pyramids of Mars' (Story 082 of the classic series), which is one of the best serials nof the legendarily awesome Season 13

It features Tom Baker at the top of his game as the 4th Doctor, one of the best companions (and Doctor/Companion pairings) ever with the redoubtable Sarah Jane Smith, one of the most terrifying and powerful villains in all of Who and an amazing story. This was classic Who at the top of its game, in its renowned gothic horror era

Whether you like that story or not will likely reveal whether classic Who is your cup of tea or not :~)

PS: Barnes & Noble is very overpriced, as is BBC America's website. If you're going to buy rather than rent, I highly suggest Amazon.com, that's who I usually get them from
