Captain, I salute youforestcatsDecember 21 2009, 02:58:14 UTC
I'm posting this as anonymous because I don't blog, don't do LiveJournal, and have no account, but hi, I'm Mercedes Lackey, and on occasion people have referred to me as an author.
Even in the original rant, you managed to consolidate into one coherent post everything that makes me furious about these books. Well done.

If you don't like the abusive relationship in the first two books-just wait for the third! All Edward does the entire time is order Bella away from Jake (who took care of her the entire time Edward was out of the picture)! Bella literally has to SNEAK away to see Jake!

Despite what the Twilight series wants you to believe, women do not actually need a big strong man to "take care" of them when their boyfriends go away.
Agreed that the abuse is even more obvious in 3, though.
I've really enjoyed reading your posts and the dialogue following. I appreciate that there is a venue for this sort of important discussion critiquing popular culture and its ideologies. Thank you for leading it as Captain!
Don't feel bad, darlin'. I'm Internet Famous for a post that talks about the etiquette of oral sex, for goodness' sake. And there were typos. I bashed that one out in no time flat and just hit "post", next thing I know, there's 800 replies. The hell?
At least your Internet Fame (EW really? Fucking rad!) is about something smart and real. Keep rockin', you.
I'd like you to know that I shared the Twilight post with a few of my friends. :) It was fantastic! And I can tell that you're a fantastic writer because even though the post was supposedly scribbled down quickly with little thought given to the writing itself, it made me laugh, gesture and flail. I've had some girls I live with ask me if I'm Team Edward or Team Jacob so many times agd;adsjklj I can't take it anymore. I get frustrated because even though I give what I consider a pretty effective and accurate speech about how Twilight is not only ridiculous and badly written, but it sets bad examples for primarily girls and what to expect in future relationships. I'm currently writing a paper for my English class on New Moon and I'm arguing that it's disempowering to women and what not. The quote: "IF THIS IS ABOUT MY SOUL, TAKE IT I DONT NEED IT" Is resonating in my head. And I mean the scene where Bella was sitting in her chair looking out the window as the months past by and she wrote about how her life was empty and meaningless
