Tripping On Terra Cotta + In Love With The DJ

May 27, 2008 16:21

I'm a bit of a history buff, and combine that with the fact that I've yet to travel to Asia (curses to OPEC and the bad economy!), it was a no-brainer for me to leap at the first chance to check out the largest loan (by China) of the famous Terra Cotta warriors in American history, first-hand and in-person...

Of course, it certainly doesn't hurt to have the Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of China's First Emperor exhibit on display in my very own hometown (how's that for customer service?) through October. For those of you who live near or around Houston, Atlanta and Washington DC, never fear, for this collection will also be making stops in your neck of the woods over the course of the next two years.

Still, after having gone through this short audio-guided tour (you'll need just about an hour or less to see everything) and being able to examine only a small sampling (about 14 full-sized statues + dozens of smaller artifacts) out of the actual 1,200 warriors unearthed so far, I am even more motivated now to visit the 23-square-mile necropolis of China's first emperor Qin Shi Huang in Xi'an soon.

In other news, you could say that I've fallen in love. Well, maybe not really (I think... ~_^). But would you blame me for developing even just a *tiny* crush on Sophia Lin, aka DJ Hustle-Lin?

Although you might chalk up my admiration to strictly her looks (she is a professional model, after all), but what really impressed me and drew my attention most was actually her mad DJ skills (believe it or not). I recently had the pleasure of Sophia's company at The Highlands nightclub in Hollywood, and not only was she extremely warm and friendly, but she actually worked the turn-tables non-stop for a 5+ hour set and kept a very demanding crowd (it was the 35th anniversary event for a high-profile magazine) partying all night, all by herself. Frankly, I've only had daydreams of mixing the way she was effortlessly doing that evening.

But don't take just my word on all this: Sophia Lin was featured as one of the 3 hottest female DJs in Los Angeles by FOX News, has been selected as the 2008 official tour DJ for the Hot Import Nights import car showcase and is one of the few DJs managed by celebrity agent Mike Esterman. On top of all that, she's a pre-cancer survivor too. What's not to admire?
