Oh, man. It's the hoping that ends up killing you. Nice look at Jack's POV in that busy episode.

Thanks! I hate doing Woobie!Jack, but when it comes to the Doctor, he just can't win. :(

Finally getting around to reviewing this. I read it on my phone but didn't want to go through the hassle of signing into LiveJournal.

The segment ... the guy who'd help saved the world. reads a bit awkward to me. Maybe if you flipped the tenses for "help" and "saved" around so it becomes ... the guy who'd helped save the world. it would read better?

Also, yay, and thanks for using my prompt! :D I really like what you did with it. :)

Good catch. It should definitely be "helped." I'll go ahead and make the change. Definitely getting a bit bleary-eyed these days.
Thanks for the prompt. I know they used that as a throw-away joke for Jack, but anytime Jack is longing for the Doctor in any capacity, there's a lot going on under the surface.

And one more little nudge... you changed to 'helped', but now you need to take the 'd' off 'save'. :)

Poor Jack. You really did dig under the surface. I remember that joke, but you have made it poignant and wistful and ultimately another disappointment. I wish I could see more of this, although, really, you've captured the heart of it in the drabble.

Thanks for the comment and for another catch. *head desk* I love light, flirty Jack, but I honestly think his great passion is for the Doctor and the fact that he'll never have that returned is a matter of much greater pain than any of his other losses.

Thanks! It was clearly scripted as a throw-a-way line, but it probably meant a lot more to Jack than we got to see at the time.

Owww. Poor Jack =( So hopeful, yet so tragically doomed. Wonderfully done!

I know. The Doctor is the single best and worst thing that ever happened to him and the only truly great love of his life. (Sorry John, Gwen, Estelle, Angelo etc.)

Poor Jack. I always thought the Doctor was a bit of a bastard to Jack in that scene.

Let's face it, the Doctor has been a bastard to Jack pretty consistently since Utopia. Maybe even longer, since I'm not sure it was JUST the TARDIS running away from him in Parting of the Ways.
